1977 Lancia Scorpion
I actually tried really hard not to buy this car. Why, you ask? Well, I'm not entirely sure. I mean, let's be very clear - this car is ridiculously awesome. After first seeing it on Craigslist, and then a few weeks later on Lancisti.net, and then a few weeks after that on Bring a Trailer, I finally came to my senses and got a deal done. I mean, I can take a hint for God's sake.

If you're not familiar with Lancia Scorpions (shocker), you really should be. Known as the Montecarlo in Europe, these mid-engined, two-seater, sports cars were assembled in Grugliasco, Italy and were the very first cars to be made completely in-house by the legendary Italian design firm and coachbuilder, Pininfarina. Available in Europe from 1975 to 1981, and in the U.S. from 1976 to 1977, Lancia sold a total of 5,775 European Montecarlos and only 1,801 U.S. Scorpions. This car is number 1,475 of 1,801.

Probably the best thing about this car is that it's obvious that the previous owner loved it as much as I do (Nate, if you're reading this, rest assured that your baby is in good hands). It is, by no measure, a perfect car. But it is, by every measure, way  (way, way, way) above average. And with a little time, luck, patience and $$, we'll get it to perfect in the near future.

In the meantime, I can barely take my eyes off her. I mean, non è bella?
