A couple of years ago, I decided that I wanted to start working (playing) on cars again. I'd spent years living in big cities, growing (and shrinking sometimes) my companies, and eating stress for breakfast most mornings. I needed some fun in my life. It was time to get my hands greasy.
I started with one car in my garage - a 1986 Porsche 944 Turbo. That only lasted a few months before I leased a little 1,300 sf shop so we could spread out a little bit and add a few toys like a media blaster, air compressor and a parts cleaner.
Of course, having some room only made us want some more so we moved to a 3,000 sf shop and added some really serious toys like a paint booth, 2 lifts, a plasma cutter, a rotisserie, tire mounting and balancing machines, and so on.
By then we'd officially lost control and we expanded to 4,500, then 6,000 sf, and one last time to our current 10500 sf. With a little luck (or perhaps self-control) we're done for awhile. Considering it's strictly a week-end, work-on-my-cars, hang-out-with-the-guys kind of place, I think we're doing OK.
We've affectionately dubbed our shop 2x Auto Restoration (because we seem to do almost everything at least twice before it's perfect). And we are, of course, proud to be the home of the legendary Old Number 9. What, you might ask, is that? Well, it's actually difficult to explain in words. Here's an idea: Why don't you stop by some weekend and experience the legend for yourself? Trust me, you won't be disappointed (disoriented maybe but never disappointed).
