1986 Porsche 944 Turbo
OK. I admit it. I'm THAT guy.
If you're not a friend of mine, and you stumbled across this site, it's probably because you've seen my build thread on Rennlist for this car. Yes, it's true, I have somehow made the decision to drop somewhere around $100k into a 1986 Porsche 944 Turbo. Why? I'm not entirely sure why.
Sometime in 2010 I decided to start looking for a clean 944 with specific options and in a specific color. I found the car quickly and fairly close by. Then I bought it. Then I decided to do some work on it. Then I decided to restore it. Somewhere along the line I decided to build a brand new car. I don't know exactly why.
My only excuse is that, when I was in my early driving years, the 944 Turbo was the car that hung on a poster in my bedroom. I remember watching the movie 16 Candles and wanting that 944 (even the non-turbo!) so damn bad it hurt.
If I could go back in time and buy one of these cars new, I really would do that. But I can't. So I'm building it. Please, don't judge.
