1982 Mazda RX-7
This is the story of Derek Hovander.

I went to high school in a very small town. VERY small. Nobody really had any money. Not by today's standards at least. Then there was Derek Hovander. It's been a couple decades and I don't remember very much about Derek. I'm sure he was a nice guy. Of course, that didn't stop me from hating him.

You see, Derek had an RX-7. Asshole. I wanted that car so bad. It was beautiful. It was everything that my 1968 Mustang wasn't (running, paid for, painted).

Fast forward 25 years and I can have pretty much any car that I want. And what do I want? I want an RX-7 that would put Derek's car to shame.

I started with a clean, 50k-mile car from Florida. Then I went nuts with it. New paint, custom  leather interior, Re-Speed high performance suspension, Nakamichi/Focal stereo system, over $5k in misc trim and cosmetic pieces, NOS Mazda wheels. Have you ever tried finding a set of 13" RWL tires that they stopped making in 1992? I did. And they look freaking great, don't they?

Louvers! I have louvers!

Wouldn't it be funny if Derek was out there Googling himself and came upon this page? If that's you, Derek, consider this car a tribute and I hope all is well.
